My little Trinket Joy was welcomed to Rainbow Bridge on January 25, 2002, and I cried every day for four months and, two years later, still have my moments. She had been terribly abused before I got her and she was with me for only 15 short months but she taught me of the love that an abused dog so wants to receive and give – even though she had no reason to love or trust again, she did.
The way that she touched me, heart and soul, let me see that I could provide a loving home for another abused soul and I began my healing by looking for another little dog to bring home. I didn’t want to adopt another dog too soon but I found my newest baby, Billie (pictured above), on Petfinder.com in April 2002. When I saw her face, I knew she was the one I was meant to have. Billie came home on June 8, 2002, – a 1 year old chihuahua/mini dachshund female who had been found wandering the streets, extremely malnourished and ready to give birth. The rescue organization placed her in a foster home where she gave birth to six puppies, where she was given love and shelter before finding her forever mom.
Billie does not show the signs of extreme abuse that Trinket did but she also has no reason to love or trust again, yet she does and she has filled my heart again. When one door closes, a window opens – I lost my Trinket Joy but I found my Billie Amber.
