This story is about Main Street “Abby” my precious Yorkie that died on March 31, 2004. Abby was almost 12 years old. She was always a happy and funny dog. Her greatest gift was her kind heart and gentle spirit. She was one of 4 Yorkies and 1 Maltese that lives in our home.

She became ill about 3 weeks ago and had a terrible infection. She was treated with antibiotics and fluids to help her recover. She became worse and was only given a few days to live. She had a strong will to live and got better for almost a week and then worse again. She needed fluids for dehydration but they caused her lungs to fill up even more and we had to stop. The vet recommended that we put her to sleep. She said it would be nice if we could bring her home for one last night with us.

What a great night for her and a sad one for us. We are so blessed that we were given this last night to be with our little Abby. She ate her supper and rested on the sofa all evening with my husband. We took her up to bed as usual and she slept beside my pillow as always.

In the morning she rolled over for one last belly rub and lots of kisses to us and from us. She ate her breakfast and some treats and then we went to the office. There the girls that work there said good bye
to Abby and lots of tears for us.

My husband and I stayed with her while she was put to sleep. My husband bent down to say, “it’s all right, honey” and she died licking his cheek. What a hard time for all of us, but a time that Abby knew for one last time that she was loved very, very much by her Mom and Dad and the rest of her family.

Her gentle spirit and kindness will remain in our hearts for ever and ever until we all meet again someday. BLESS YOU, ABBY, FOR ALL THE LOVE AND DEVOTION THAT YOU HAVE ALWAYS GIVEN TO EVERYONE!
