My sweet Annie,
16 years was not long enough! I love you and miss you! Rest in peace until we are together again.
Just a little stray,
when you came my way,
Hanging round my door,
always wanting more.
Thirsty, hungry, homeless and
really very thin I didn’t want to love.
you, didn’t want to let you in.
Through thunderstorm and lightning,
you sat there resolute —– Waiting
for me to weaken and looking so darn cute!!
I gave you all the table scraps,
whatever I could spare, And every time
I turned around,
I saw that green eyed stare.
Don’t know if someone turned you out
or if you had a name, So Little
Orphan Annie is what you became.
I opened up the door,
thus opening my heart,
Giving you a home and a
brand new start.
Shy and unassuming,
with a smug look on your face,
You joined two older
brothers and quickly took your place.
Standoffish behavior and lots
of little snubs, Have now changed to
kisses and long belly rubs.
Many years have passed — 2001 was bad,
Your older brothers died that
year and made me very sad.
As the time has passed,
we’ve gone along our way,
Dealt with some health
issues, much to my dismay.
Your epileptic seizures
scare me half to death,
With each one I wonder,
will this be your last breath?
Three times I thought I’d lost you,
but you put up a good fight,
Always you came back to me,
but gave me such a fright!!
I don’t know what the future holds,
or where we go from here,
But your unconditional love
is so very clear.
I’m so glad I took you in,
and gave you my affection,
Although you had a
paw in it,
we made a great connection.
Your name no longer fits you,
not really so uncanny,
No longer the
little orphan,
but ALWAYS my sweet Annie!!!
Love always,
