Aphrodite & Persephone by Candice & Family

For my girls:

This parable was found on the body of an American Jewish Soldier Col. David Marcus who was one of those who helped to form the first army of the State of Israel:

“I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads
her white sails in the morning breeze and
starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength
and I stand and watch her until at length
she is only a ribbon of white cloud
just where the sea and sky
come to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says
‘there! She’s gone!’

“Gone Where? Gone from my sight- – that is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the place of destination.

Her diminished size is in me not in her
and just at the moment when someone at my side says
‘There! She’s gone!’
there are other voices ready to take up the glad shout
‘There! She comes!’
And that is dying.”

I miss you my two sweet angels my miracle dogs. I’m glad that you are both free of the pain and limitation that old age brought to bear upon you and grateful that you both were able to stay here with me for as long as you did. I thank you for teaching me how to love unconditionally and without question the true meaning of nobility and to enjoy the simple things in life like the perfect spot to roll around in on the grass.

I only hope that I gave back to you as much love and respect you gave me. I hope you both are happily fetching (Dite you are fetching and Persy is stealing the ball and dropping it before running back to the thrower) swimming (Dite you are swimming and Persy is wading) and getting into the trash without getting in trouble.

I think of you every day and always will. There will never be other dogs like you but you can play happily knowing that you have taught us all to love and respect animals and that someday I will have one of your descendants as my children’s dog to teach them the same lessons.

Thank you both for choosing me and dedicating yourselves to being a part of our family.
