Daisy by Becka / Becka

Daisy was an amazing puppy. Even though she was spoiled rotten, she was very loving and loyal. She had the most captivating, most stunning blue eyes. My family bought her from a local “breeder” in our county. She was worth every penny, but unfortunately she died before she was a year old, due to poor breeding.

During the summer, Daisy fell ill and was not feeling well. We brought her to our local vet, but he was no help. So we took her to the Maryland Animal Emergency Hospital. The doctors ran tests, and said an infecton had taken over her body. Of course we were all in aw, how could this happen to our Daisy? After a day in the hospital, the doctors said it would be best if we left Daisy there overnight and see how she was in the morning. This took a dramatic turn for the worse. When we arrived home, we got a call saying Daisy was extremely sick, and she would have to have her kidney removed due to the severe infection.

Though, sadly, Daisy would not have a good chance of living, so we all heartbreakingly decided to put our beloved Daisy to sleep. It was heart wrenching. I was only 13 years old, and I wanted to be there with Daisy, but my parents wouldn’t let me go. I felt like I had betrayed her, making her feel like I left her there to die, and there was nothing I could do about it.
(But now I know Daisy understands I didn’t want, or mean, to hurt her, just love her.)So my dad just went to go pick her up. That night my dad returned only to bury her under the cedar trees with all her other past friends, and our other missed, beloved pets.

I think about Daisy every day, including all of my passed friends. Now she can run, play and swim with all of her puppy friends, and not have to worry about falling, sick,or hurting, or being tired. So until that special day, we’ll both be waiting to meet again and never leave out of each others sight.

I love you Daisy!!!

Millie by Becka / Becka

Millie was a great friend and a huge part to our family. My mom rescued her from the pound when I was a year old. She was in one of the back kennels with her mother, and a couple brothers and sisiters. She stood out from the rest because she had huge floppy ears, was fuzzy, and had huge feet. So she came home, and my sister and I were ecstatic!! A puppy!! She lived peacefully with us for years, until our house burned down in a tragic electrical fire.

We soon found the home we’re living in now, with acres of fields, woods, and lakes. And the best part about it, was that it was all Millie’s!!(Millie was allowed to roam free, for she was very obedient and loyal, and would never think twice about running away.)She was a very laid back, watch-dog kind of dog.

But just over the summer, I noticed Millie wanted to stay outside, and she never wanted to come in. She crawled under the cool, basement, and didn’t come back out. I took the bottom of a dog house, padded it with pillows and blankets, gave her a huge bowl of water, some meat, bread, and mashed potatoe scraps, and she didn’t move from where she was laying, so I pat her on the head, and went back inside. The next day, when I checked on her, I noticed she was lying in the bed I made for her, and the food was gone. As I began to change her food and water bowls, I noticed something different. She didn’t give me her usual eye look as if to say hello. I walked over to her, and she must’ve passed late last night, or in the early morning.

I told my mom, and my dad came home from work to bury her. We buried her under the cedar trees with all of our other passed on friends. Millie lived almost 14, very long, but short years. I looked up to Millie as if she were a big sister. Millie was a cool Mutt, and still is!

I love you Millie, and I long to see
you again!!!

Mei Ling by Becka / Becka

My mom and I were at the local pound. We were checking out the dogs. My mom found nothing that caught her eye.(But I did!I wanted every dog in sight!) Just as we were about to leave,my mom looked back, and she noticed a little grey ball in one of the back kennels. It was a little, old, scraggly dog.

My mom said “I better not”, so when we were half way in the car, my mom popped back out, and asked the man if she could see her. We walked around outside for a few minutes, while she relieved herself after being cooped up in the cold, hard, concrete kennel. It didn’t take long for us to decide! So when we got home, I gave her a bath, etc. The next day my mom went to the grocery store to get a few things, and while she was there she caught up with an old friend. She was talking to my mom about our pets(somehow that subject always comes up) and she says she lost an old Lhasa Apso, and she felt terrible because it belonged to the old lady she was caring for, and when the old lady died, she asked for her to take good care of her.

My mom in,a state of shock, said she had just adopted one that exactly matched her description! They were both in aw, and to make sure, my mom’s friend came back to our house to look. It was her!! So the lady gave us all of the dog’s information, when she was born, her diet, etc., and that her name was Mei Ling. And it turns out, the little old dog had a bad life as a puppy. Her original owners ex husband abused her, and broke all of her ribs, and therefore she was very timid, and guarded her “mom” every second. But luckily, the friend let us keep her because she had 3 children to take care of, and we had fallen in love with her.Meiling was 13 years old when she adopted us, and lived out her golden years happily, and peacefully. She would lay in her bed beside our kitchen door all day, unless to get up to eat, or go outside to use the bathroom.

But suddenly, one quick day over the summer, Mei Ling didn’t act right. She wouldn’t eat or go outside to use the bathroon. Her bowels weren’t working right and we were continuously cleaning up after her. Poor thing, I felt so sorry for her. She would just lie in the kitchen floor, sometimes trying o get up, but failing. She would cry, and moan. She was like that for a whole day. When she died, it was in the early morning hours. She had put up a long fight, but it was time for her to go home, for her original mommy was calling her, and soon they were in eachothers arms again. I was sad Mei Ling had died, but so happy she could be with her real Mommy. Mei Ling was a very sweet dog, and I wish to see her again, and get to meet her mommy.Mei Ling was such a loss. We always take wide turns out of habit still, because of where she use to lay.

We still throw the occasional scrap down on the floor, only to forget she’s not there. Mei Ling put up a hard fight, but it was time for her to go home, for her mommy was calling her.

I love you Mei Ling!!
