Lacey by Clay / Clay
Lacey was the best pheasant hunting dog
I or my friends had ever hunted with.
Some of the experiences were nothing short
of amazing. I never ran her in
any field trials or tried to show her off.
Lacey was simply my hunting partner and
best friend. From the moment she was a pup,
I knew I had something special.
Lacey was great with the kids,
great with other dogs, took to training
like a duck in water and above
all made my life extra special.
Over her 13 years, which is long
for an outdoor kenneled hunting dog,
Lacey and I had so many memorable experiences
that I will never forget.
But one stands out for me. Pheasant hunting down in Iowa, a member of our party winged
a bird that dropped in almost nightmarish cover.
After 15 min. everyone was ready
to give up and go back top the car,
but I had faith in my dog when others
were giving up. They took off to get the car,
and just as they pulled up,
out Lacey came with that big rooster still alive. The most stunning example of perserverance in a dog I’d ever seen.
Thanks for all the memories old girl. I’ll see you at the Bridge.
