Joshua by Roslyn / Your Mum xxx

Finally I had permission to have a cat in my rented apartment, my sister was going to the animal welfare league so I asked her to see if there was a suitable kitten. She asked me what I didn’t want in a kitten and I told her no furry cats, no vocal cats and no orange cats. That afternoon she rang me to say she had found a beautiful cat but he was everything I didn’t want, old (10 years old) fluffy and orange and vocal. She was so insistent that he would be just perfect, so I agreed take him.

So began the most wonderful relationship with a pet I have ever had, we were inseparable. Joshua came everywhere with me and only on a lead, he knew when to come close to people and when to give them space and he just loved to groom the other cats I eventually got him for company. Two years ago Joshua began to be very pushy and wanted to almost sit on me constantly and I commented to my sister that it was as if he knew something wrong with me, well he was right I had cancer.

I recovered and then it was found that Joshua himself had bladder cancer, he was so unwell, sleeping all the time, vomiting and had blood in his urine but he remained so faithful to me, the vet told me he was in pain and I had to make the decision to put him to sleep. I was with Joshua through the whole process, he had to be sedated because he was clinging to me, he didn’t want to leave me which made it worse. I held his head in my hands speaking words of love to him until it was over. It has been almost 2 years since I lost Joshua and I wonder if the pain will ever go away. Joshua I love you and miss you so much; I hope one day we will be together once more. Rest in peace my darling boy.
