Bailey by Cody and Genesis Bourrette / Mommy and Daddy

We bought Bailey from the humane society. I remember my fiance’ saying no dogs unless there is a hound. And then there was he walked over to the gate opened it and she walked out to him, looked up at him with big brown eyes and laid her head in his lap. We knew then and there she was coming home with us. In the time we had her she brought light to our life. But her and Cody they had this bond. She only howled for his truck when she heard it coming home. She would follow him around alert watching his every movement.

The sun rose and set around him. they went hunting together, fell asleep together, even ate together sometimes. They had a bond I had never seen before they seemed to see into each others souls. And then a week ago everything changed she got sick and we didn’t know why we tryed everything thinking maybe she had stomach ache and that’s why she wasn’t eating. Finally we decided we needed to take her to the vet. On the way there she started howling. We thought maybe she was getting better and then she stopped. Cody ripped the truck over ran to the bed and started screaming her name. He jumped in the back and shook her as hard as he could begging her to stay with him, asking her how he was supposed to hunt coons with out her. Then she looked up at him one last time took a deep breath and was gone.

I’ve never seen a love like that between a dog and a human. A bond that even seems to reach into death. She told cody she was dying then waited till she was in his arms and they could say good bye to each other. We will miss her; we were robbed of time with her. The humane society we got her from was infected with distemper and never told us. She had it when we got her and we never knew. But we are happy we could give her a good life. That she spent the last few months with us running around being a hound.

She brought a light into our life that will always burn.
And created a bond with a man that will never break. We miss her so much. May she rest in peace.
She will never be forgotton. She was Cody's first hound.
And only true friend.
We love you Bailey.
