Recently I lost my beloved kitty Bandit. My daughter gave him to me 3 days before Christmas in 1995. She had adopted him from the Animal Protective League and was trying to “hide” him in her room. He kept meowing and trying to get out! We had another cat at the time and at first I thought it was her meowing. Then I realized that it wasn’t! Finally she decided to give him to me. She put a big red bow around his neck. He was such a tiny little boy! He was so ugly he was cute!! He grew on me quickly!
We spent a lot of time together. He hated thunderstorms and would curl up next to me or hide! I remember a particular night we spent the entire night snuggled up together watching the weather channel reports on the terrible storms we were having! Needless to say we slept the whole next day! He loved going outside. I never let him go unless I carried him.
In 2008 he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and kidney disease! He had lost 4 lbs and was skin and bones! I spent a lot of time trying to make sure that I gave him the best care I could give him. We had a lot of ups and downs over those 2 years. Most recently after developing an upper respiratory infection he went down hill very fast. When the vet told me that he wouldn’t make it through the night, the decision was made to let him go peacefully.
I held him in my arms to the very end. He knew I was there and that he was loved. I miss him so much, but in my heart I know I made the right decision not to let him suffer. I will always love him. He will always be with me in my heart!
Never forget how much you are loved,
