Three months have passed and it is still hard to believe that you are gone. The house is so quiet without you. How we miss your piercing elkhound bark, your expressive eyes, and the furious wag of your tightly curled tail. You loved to eat, and the night you didn’t eat we knew something was seriously wrong. We lost you just four days after you gave us any indication that something was amiss.
It all happened so suddenly.
Bear, you were such a good dog. The kind of dog that may come along once in a lifetime. You kept me safe all those years. I will never forget the night when a drunk stranger tried to enter the house. You stood your ground and dared the man to challenge you. As ferocious as you were guarding your territory and loved ones, you were as gentle as a lamb. You loved children,
and never bit anyone in your life.
Bear was the kind of dog that once he was passed puppyhood, he could be trusted to never have an accident in the house. He was 100 % reliable in this aspect. However, he was by no means a perfect angel. He would eat just about anything he could get ahold of, including socks and underwear. When he was eleven he almost died because he ate a pair of pantyhose and became obstructed. Fortunately an ultrasound picked up the problem, and the pantyhose were removed by endoscopy. Bear lived for an additional one year and four months after this incident.
Bear, we miss you so much. You will always hold a special place in my heart. You will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, my friend. I will see you again someday.
With love,
| BEAR |
