Cat
Big Tom was the greatest cat on Earth.
I was around five years old
when he was born in my parent's bedroom.
I remember seeing him and thinking
of what a miracle he was.
He thought he was a human.
He used to listen to me when I sang.
Growing up I had no friends in school;
I was an outcast.
I told Tom all my secrets.
He was my best friend.
He talked more than any other cat ever.
"Hi Tommy!" *Meow!* "How are you?"
*Meow!* "Well that's good!" *Mew.*
He was the happiest kitty on earth.
This summer 10 years after his birth
he was diagnosed with kidney failure.
His kidneys shut down but he never complained.
He sat there and Mewed at me
no matter how weak he was.
But today he couldn't even stand up.
Telling him goodbye was the hardest thing
I have EVER had to do in my entire life.
I have never lost anyone close to me.
And he's closer to me than a lot of humans are.
I am seventeen years old now
but I still remember when I was five and watched
the miracle of his birth
and knew deep down inside
that he was going to become
my best friend
and a wonderful companion.
