Brandy came into my life after I’d lost my beautiful and gentle Happy. I went to Adopt A Pet in Miami and out of all the dogs they had in the yard (in their own runs) Brandy was the one who barked. However, she only barked when I left her run. As soon as I walked back she just stared at me. Ultimately I asked that she be brought out and put on a leash for me. I can’t say anything other than it was love at first sight. I have loved all my fur babies, but there was something magical about her from the very beginning and a link that remains. I’m so grateful she had almost 16 years of good healthy, but it still breaks my heart that I had to give her that gentle ending yesterday. I know she’s no longer bothered by her arthritis and that she can now hear and see perfectly,
but I miss my sweet girl.
I found later that Brandy had never uttered a peep in the almost two months she was at the shelter – not until I walked up. I will always think that Happy had her wait – especially when I took her to my parents’ house that evening and the first thing she did when she went to explore the backyard was to walk to the spot where we’d buried Happy’s ashes. She just walked to the spot and sat down, as if to let Happy know that all was well and perhaps to thank her. Now, I’d like to imagine that she’s finally met Happy and that my dad was there with
a tiny pretzel snack for her.
Rest my sweet Brandy girl.
I love you so very much,
