Still, My Little Boy
Still, more than a year later
I can see you run towards me when I call
I know you are never far from my touch
I feel you dancing around my feet
Oh, you are still my little boy; so sweet
Still, it has been more than a year
But I have not forgotten you, my Brinksey
I know you are waiting for me at the bridge
I promise we will be together again one day
And in that place, forever we shall stay.
Love, Your Mommy
Grunt, Grunt
SIT, Good Boy, COME!
Kitchen, Brinks, Kitchen!
Brinksey, want a “treeeet”?
Awww, Come here Chunky Grunt
You Goofy Boy.
Shhh, it’s ok, come here baby.
Momma’s got you, settle now.
Look at that pretty boy in the mirror
Brinksey’s a special boy.
Momma loves her Brinksey, yes she does.
Oh, how Momma’s gonna miss her Brinksey.
It’s ok baby, it’s ok.

(This story was written before Brinks’s passing)
Let me tell you about Brinks aka Brinksey, a “special needs” Chihuahua. He is my permanent foster dog and is extremely scared of people. On the other hand, it seems that he only has eyes for me. We are like static cling since day one.
Forget everything you know or read about dogs. Brinks makes the most dog savvy person feel completely incompetent. He invented the word hyperactive and he never sits down. He is either pacing, jumping in and out of your lap, or sleeping. He whines under his breath for no reason. He digs holes in the yard like it is his duty to society. He chews through a harness and a leash faster than Houdini. He anticipates your thoughts before you move towards him, and he moves quicker than lighting strikes.
Brinks is a quirky guy. He rubs his head on your leg like a cat. Instead of sitting on his rear end, he places his head on the floor as if it is some kind of new millennium sit. He grunts at you like a pig when he wants something. He growls at himself after he sneezes. He skips in sequence when he runs. He tilts his head to the side when you talk to him – like he knows exactly what you are saying. He loves every other dog he sees, no matter how big.
The best part about Brinks is his beauty! His eyes are the most beautiful almond shape, amber color that you have ever seen. They melt your heart in an instant! His body is built like a beautiful race horse. His coat is smooth and shiny. His long legs are muscular and lean. He loves an ear rub, and he will cuddle with you and kiss your ears too. In better moments, he will lay down and nap with you, and you think you have won the lottery. In the worst moments, his grand mal seizures make even the strongest person cry. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. This is what I see when I look at Brinks. Strength. He makes me stronger.
Love Always,
