Brownie, my Beauty by Jeanette Lapham / Your fur-ever mommy

ODE TO BROWNIE…

I lost a furry friend today,

I met just weeks ago…

She had smooth fur like velvet,

And a squishy marsh mellow nose…

Her owners gave her to the pound,

There was no room to spare…

Rescued from a certain death,

Where no one seemed to care…

They named her Brownie,

But she was my Beauty…

Gentle spirit with so much love,

She gave to me completely…

I only speak of time we shared,

Since her past was an unknown…

She was my foster puppy,

Waiting for her fur-ever home…

On the day when we first met,

She was timid and so quiet…

But soon her little sausage tail,

She wagged and held up high…

She understood now she was loved,

As she followed me and smiled…

At night she shared soft kisses,

And curled close to my side…

She died in a freakish accident,

Hung herself by her leash…

Trying to follow her foster mommy,

She lost her fight to live…

I held her tightly in my arms,

Blew breath into her snout…

Pressed upon her quiet chest,

Listening for her heart…

My tears of sorrow fell on her face,

As I rocked and cried her name…

But the time had come for her return,

To heaven from whence she came…

I’ll mourn her loss forever,

I would do whatever I could…

To hold her tightly in my arms,

And share marsh mellow kisses…

Happy trails to you my Beauty, now you sleep with the angels...
