Somewhere God has received a new angel into his kingdom. His name is Bruno and he was our loving companion for over ten and a half years. From the day his mother, Samantha gave birth to him in our home along with his sisters, Towanda and Edie, he taught us about unconditional love. He had such a sweet and gentle nature and a special knack for knowing how to win you over with his expressive and understanding eyes.
In December of 2003 he was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma in his chest and lungs which was inoperable. Our only viable option was to keep him comfortable until treatments would no longer help. Last week he became much weaker and short of breath. The feeling of helplessness was almost unbearable in those last days. All we could do was try to comfort him, try to find foods that he could eat when he had no appetite and to sleep with him on the floor so he would know I was close.
There seemed to be little more we could do as his quality of life deteriorated. We had to make the decision to return him to God’s care. He passed away peacefully last Monday, February 16, 2004, as we comforted him at the animal hospital. Through the blur of tears he looked so peaceful in his rest. We love him very much and continue to grieve his loss, just as his sisters are doing in their own way. They still look for him to come home.
I know he is in a better place, in God’s care where we will see him again someday. We will always cherish the joy he brought into our lives. Do you suppose that if there really is a Pearly Gate to heaven, that there is a doggy door in it? I think there must be! I’m sure he’s standing there waiting.
“Let a call go out now, into the winds of this, Gods earth. That a gentle soul has laid down his head and has returned to God’s sacred keeping.”
“What we once have enjoyed, we can never lose.
All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.”
Helen Keller
“If you have men who will exclude any
of God’s creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their
fellow men.”
St. Francis of Assisi
In Loving Memory, We miss you Bruno.
