Border Collie
I remember always wanting a dog when I was growing up,
but my parents felt that the city was not place to raise one.
So one of the first things I did as an adult was look around
visiting shelters for who was to become my best friend.
It was a Saturday morning and I had just about given up
after searching all the local shelters when at my last stop someone
told me to come and look at this 10 week old Border Collie who
had been abandoned shortly after birth.
This little guy had more compassion and love in his eyes
than most people I knew.
I called him Bud and he and I were on our way to our new home.
By the time Monday morning rolled around I didn’t want to go to work
because I hated to leave him and all I could think about that day was
getting home to be with him. Bud had won over every emotion I
was capable of. We did everything together and it got to the point
that I very seldom if ever went anywhere that he wasn’t welcome.
My entire life had changed and I was perfectly content spending my time
watching him grow. It was Bud who taught me what patience was he
showed me what it truly meant to be a best friend with no strings
attached and how not to judge.
People often speak of the superior intelligence of Border Collies
and although that may be true I would more so commend their loyalty,
their compassion and their never ending love.
Bud was with me for 15 years and I could never repay all that he gave to me.
He was the most unselfish being I knew.
When Bud passed away my entire life changed once again just as
it had when he came into my life on that Saturday morning.
He has left my life with a void that will never be filled in the same way.
I will love him until I too take my last breath.
Until we meet again my friend.
