Snow came to us as a gift from a dear old lady who found her abandoned on a long lonely road. It was February 1998,very cold and very wet. How she managed to see such a small bundle of white fur I don’t know. This little bundle of fur grew, and grew and we realized that we had a beautiful Samoyed. Not only was she beautiful to look at but she had the most wonderful, sweet nature.
Everyone in the neighborhood knew her and always stopped to talk about her when we were out on her daily walks.
She was my confident, my best friend. Always there to greet me when I came home from work with that big tail wagging behind her. When I was sad, she knew and her head was always on my lap as if to say “It’s ok,I am here for you. She drove me crazy over her passion for tennis balls, for where Snow was, there to was a ball!
On August 11 2004, I came home to find her very sick. I rushed her to the vets and after blood tests she was diagnosed with Anti-freeze poisoning. Since we do not keep the stuff around the house, I can only come to the conclusion that someone, for whatever reason, poisoned my beloved dog. As there was no hope of saving her, I had her put to sleep. She passed away peacefully with her head in my lap and my arm’s around her neck. I left her lead on the table as I walked out of the room so that god could lead her to Rainbow Bridge, where she can chase cats, squirrels and all the tennis balls that her heart desires. I could not bear to have her ashes returned to me.
This weekend I will be placing a plaque in my rose garden for you Snow, and underneath it I will bury a pack of tennis balls just for you. This has been a very very hard month for me, and many tears have fallen. With time the tears will stop, the pain will ease, but the memory of you will stay in my heart for ever.
You taught me what real love from a dog meant, and for that I thank you. Daddy and Kirsty miss you very much to, but the bond that you and I had was very special, even they could not understand that.
I know that one day I will be throwing tennis balls for you again,
but until then.
Good night and I will see you in my dreams.
