I always will remember
the day when we first met.
I had found a golden treasure,
though I didn’t know it yet.
As I slowly walked along the path
of cages filled with choices,
some dogs cowered pitifully,
while others raised their voices.
You sat there calm and patiently,
somehow I think you knew,
that out of all the canines there
my choice was to be you.
I walked up to your cage
where you sat quietly and still.
Then when I asked if you’d be mine,
you barked, “I will! I will!”
We lived together happily,
the bond between us grew.
I never had to tell you how I felt.
You always knew.
I always felt protected
when I had you at my side.
You were the sunshine in my life,
my friend, my joy, my pride.
Our treasured time together
in this world just seemed to fly.
All too soon the time had come
for us to say goodbye.
I put my face up close to yours.
I kissed you tenderly.
And as you took your final breath,
your eyes were fixed on me.
I was blessed to have you in my life.
You brought me so much pleasure.
Goodbye my precious Goldie girl,
beloved friend, my golden treasure.
