I said goodbye to you today little cat.
My fingers felt bones as I stroked your fur.
You could barely raise your head for a drink.
Yet your fading green eyes still showed love and quiet pain, yet no fear.
Yet you still calmed me with your quiet purr.
Were you comfortable wrapped in the blankets near the fire?
And did you know your time drew near?
And as you slipped away from us so quietly did you whisper in my ear?
Did you whisper for me to not grieve?
Nor speak of you with tears?
But to act as you were beside me for the future days?
Or to act as if you were always near?
