Whitney,

I waited so long to get the news,
That the litter was born, and I got to choose.
I knew when I saw you, it was meant to be,
Because you were the puppy that came over to me.
Throughout the years, I had so much fun,
Watching you and “Schatzie” play and run.
The girls both loved you, and thought you were sweet,
You would beg at their high chairs for something to eat.
Then the children moved away, and “Schatzie” was gone,
Which left you and I to carry on.
When I went to work, I would always say,
“I’ll be back” and it made you okay.
My car would pull up, and you’d scratch at the door,
And be so excited to see me once more.
We enjoyed our evenings, and time in the yard,
You searched for lizards, and looked very hard.
Then your coughing got worse, and you started to fade,
It was the hardest decision I have ever made.
Now you’re at peace, not struggling to breathe,
But it broke my heart when you had to leave.
You knew that I loved you, and you were “my girl”,
As I held you in my arms when you left this world.
And even though we are now apart,
You will always have a place in my heart.
Love “Mommy”
