Brutus was rescued by my son. When he first joined our family, he would duck when we tried to pet his head. I never realized how much he would come to mean to us all. He would sit quietly at the edge of the deck in the mornings and watch the sun come up. He would lay his head on your feet and you would have his wonderful collar of fur for slippers.
I still have slobber spots on my walls from where he shook his head but I just can’t wipe them off yet. Who knew that a massive St. Bernard would become a house pet, who knew that he would touch our hearts so deeply and who knew we would miss him so dearly. He never complained as his cancer progressed. He just kept up our spirits with his compassion and love for us. I know his spirit lives on and I know I am a better person for knowing this great noble animal.
Rest in Peace, Dear Friend
