For Muffin and Amelia Who Wait at t

Two little angels wake at dawn,
Two little angels play on the lawn.

Two little angels listen for my call,
Two little angels play with a ball.

One little angel went first to play,
A little brown angel, on a sunny day.

Didn’t know where she was going,
But knew she shouldn’t stay.
Her little head damp with my tears
As she went away.

Many, many years went by
For a puff the color of snow.
A sweet and gentle angel,
Then it was time for her to go.

I told the second angel,
Another’s expecting you!
You two play together
Until I get there, too.

Two little angels jump and run,
Two little angels nap in the sun.

Two little angels wait for my touch,
Two little angels who I love so much.
