In 1992 my husband finally agreed that we should have a dog. He traveled alot and I desperately wanted a companion when he was out of town. He consented to a dog for a pet if – white, non-shedding, and a female. I combed the shelters and the newspaper and finally found 3 white female poodle mix puppies for sale.
I drove out in the country to see them and just as I started up the driveway I saw 3 white puppies and 1 black one in a pen in the yard. I fell in love with the black one before I even stopped the car. The black one was a male and also a schnauzer/poodle mix, a “snoodle”. He was my very best friend for almost 12 years.
We put him to sleep May 29, 2004 – his little body racked with cancer. He was diabetic for the last years of his life, but it never even slowed him down. He loved to run, he loved people, other dogs, children and he loved to travel in the car. He always slept curled up to my back when my husband was out of town and at the foot of the bed when he was home.
We took him out of the doggie hospital and spent one last night with him before putting him to sleep. He had been in hospital and monitored for almost a week and we needed to spend time with him before we said good-bye. I will miss him always but I know we will be together again.
