When I first saw him I knew he and I were going to
be together for life.
He had such big paws and oh what a nice color of fur.
He looked so pleasant you knew it was OK to pet him.
His name was Andre. My ex-wife named him after Andre the
Giant the wrestler. After looking at his paws we knew he
would grow up to be a Giant.
You know what He did.
He was born on St. Patrick’s day. March 17 1983.
As soon as he had opened his eyes he was mine.
The first place we had him there were fruit trees around his area.
He got really good at eating the apricots.
He would pick up the ones that had fallen then he would munch
down on the apricot and the seed would come spitting out.
It was a funny site. I sure miss him now.
I sure loved the times when he and I would go up hiking
into the mountains. He was a trail blazer.
I taught him to shake his whole body before coming into
the house because of how long his fur was.
I taught him to give five and also high tens where he would
jump up and slap both of your hands.
He loved me and I could tell. There were times after my
divorce where I felt sad and he would come over
and rest his head on my lap.
Boy this is hard to write.
I gave him a wonderful full life good food and plenty of attention.
This is something I will miss forever.
Towards the end he had arthritis and it was very difficult
for him to get around. Its funny there were still times when I would
come home and unlock the back gate and he would come
running out but stumble but still very happy to see me as I of him.
I’m so sad to have to put him down that I feel like a terrible person.
Today after 18 wonderful years of having a friend,
I thought it was time. I had him put down.
I stayed there with him until the end.
How ironic that I was there when he first opened his eyes
to the day he shut his eyes for good.
I hope to see him and be with him when my turn comes.
This telling the story of My Best Friend Andre has helped me alittle
but I know it will take a long time to get over.
Thank you for this opportunity to share
My Dog “Andre” with all of you.
