Captain by Kim and Bruce Jones / Mom and Dad

To our little Poofer dog:

You and your dad came into my life 10 years ago when you met me and your best buddy Chester. You were just a little ball of black fur and boy did you surprise me! You didn’t get your name of ‘Captain’ by chance. You were always the captain in our house! Even though you were only 15 pounds you were the boss of Chester and Remy, both 4 times your size — and the boss of us too 🙂

You made us happy every day of your life. One of my favorite memories is how you used to wake me up on Saturday and Sunday mornings early. You’d come up and snuggle under my chin and lick me until I petted you. And petted you. And petted some more! Your favorite was the neckie scratch (you left the earsie scratch for Chester!). You never seemed to tire of that!

We know losing your buddy Chester 6 weeks ago was a huge blow to you. We now know the tumor was in your head 2 years ago, but you stayed strong for Chester. After he went to the bridge we think you missed him so much you just wanted to be there with him, you went down hill so fast 🙁 But we know you’re with him now and so happy again!!!

We know you’re up there now with Chester and Remy (and I’m sure Remy is being nice to you now) — you’re spinning and spinning like you used to do because there’s nothing but great treats and bones to be had there. We’re glad that you are now able to snuggle with your Chester bud and when you’re not doing that, I’m sure you’re chasing Remy around and around the green fields like you used to. Maybe he’ll let ya catch him now!

We miss you so much, and we miss Chester and Remy too — but we know we’ll see all of you someday — that keeps us going 🙂

Your new buddy Rainey misses you a lot too (well, for the 15 minutes a day when she’s actually AWAKE). We were so worried that she wouldn’t get along with you but she was so kind with you. Towards the end when you got so bad, she didn’t mind at all when you blindly rammed into her. And when you’d fall over in the yard and layed there, she’d come over and lay near you to let you know you weren’t alone. 🙂

We know you are getting lots and lots of neckie scratches in Heaven — we look forward to the day we can give you neckie scratches ourselves 🙂

you will always be our sweet little Poofers 🙂
