Casey by Shirley & Gary

On Wednesday May 9 2001 I lost my best friend Casey.

She was my baby a very special girl that we had for almost 17 years. She was with us through so many ups and downs and it was such a difficult decision to send her to the Rainbow Bridge without me. She always sought me out whenever I was out of her sight and my heart has such a hugh hole in it.

Casey was so special. She lived on pain pills for the last four years while her hips continued to get worse. She finally could not rise without help and her eyes were asking for relief. It has broken my heart to finally make that fateful decision and I feel I will never stop crying for her.

Casey was the last of a special line of Labradors. I had her mother “Kelly” and her grandmother “Casey I”. They too were the greatest. Casey will never be replaced she cannot be. Tara my other lab misses her too and is also grieving.

I have written a poem for Casey and her mom and Grandmother.

This is for you girls I love you so.

LONG WALKS IN THE FIELDS WITH A SHADOW AT MY SIDE
FETCHING RUNNING CHASING IMAGINARY DREAMS
MY COMPANION PROTECTOR ALWAYS A CONFIDANT
NEVER DOUBTING HER DEVOTION TO ME.
SHE WAS ALWAYS THERE TO PLEASE
THAT SHADOW IS GONE NOW TO FIELDS OF ENDLESS PLAY
RUNNING CHASING SHE’S CAUGHT THOSE ELUSIVE DREAMS
HER BLACK COAT REFLECTING A THOUSAND SUNBEAMS.
I’LL NEVER WALK THOSE FIELDS ALONE.
THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A SHADOW AT MY SIDE
AND ONE ETCHED INTO THE MEMORIES OF MY HEART.
