Champ by Ruth

My Mom’s Golden Retriever Champ passed away April 3 2001. He was 14 years old and was a beauty. My Mom took care of him since he was 6 weeks old and was devoted to his every wish. He was her Soul Mate in life and she misses him terribly. We all do.

In honor of our special Champie we had a viewing before burying him on Wednesday. He looked beautiful lying there…so innocent and sweet. He was in pain for the past few months. He hasn’t been able to walk in the past month because of Arthritis but we didn’t care we placed him on a blanket and carried him up/down the stairs twice a day. What we did care about was when he couldn’t lift himself up at all and he started to cry a lot. We knew something was terribly wrong.

On Tuesday we took him to our Vet and was faced with the dreadful reality of his fate. They were pretty sure he had liver cancer and he was in pain. Letting go was and is the hardest part as we loved him so much. But we chose to give him his last gift to be free of all the horrible pain. He had a wonderful life and went out with dignity..and all the love we gave him. He is with cards gifts toys and a precious white blanket which covers him to keep him warm.

May God bless him. Champie we love you!!! You will never be forgotten, you will remain in our hearts forever. As your Momma always called you “We love you our sweet thing.” We’ll see you again at Rainbow Bridge.
