Our cat Cringer died on Tuesday Oct. 2. He was 15 years old. He was more than a pet to us. We got him when my son was 4 years old. Cringer was 10 weeks old when we got him so he and my son Jeff grew up together. Cringer was Jeff’s constant companion. He was a loving loyal family member with a unique personality and was a constant source of laughter and joy for us.
He had a very unique voice and was very expressive with it. He had a large human-sounding vocabulary including names the words no hello Mom and brother which he called Jeff sometimes. Cringer was a source of comfort in some of our hardest times as a family. He is missed very much and will always be remembered. He had been slowing down lately which we assumed was due to his age because he still was quite healthy. He still enjoyed playing chasing a ball or grabbing the magnets off the fridge. But he would stop and rest after a few minutes of play and didn’t move as fast as he used to.
On Tuesday while I was lying down in my room and Jeff was in his room Cringer was walking on the railing of our balcony as he always had and for some reason fell off. We live on the third floor of our building. He has never fallen before and cats have been known to fall from greater distances and walk away. But we think that his heart may have failed at that time and that he died instantly possibly before he hit the ground.
We had Cringer cremated and we have his ashes in a prominent spot in our living room. The loss of our beloved friend has been unspeakably hard for us. We knew he would not live forever but we didn’t expect it to happen this way. We thought he would die peacefully someday in his sleep after a long happy life. We will have other pets but we will always cherish the memory of Cringer.
We love and miss you Cringer.
