Dempsey by Hunter Cole / Dad and Mom

Today, I let my beloved dog Dempsey go and free him from the terrible pain that was racking his poor tired old body. Dempsey came into my life late in his and we all knew that our time together would be short, but oh in that time we had, was so sweet and wonderful. He seemed to just fall into place like he’d been there all the time in our family.

You see, he was adopted by us when his first parent took a job and had to move to a place where she couldn’t keep him. I found her note on the vet’s bulletin board and called. We went over to her house and fell in love at first sight with his cock eyed ear- when he was a puppy, he decided that a much larger dog was trespassing and took him on. In the ensuing fight his ear was hurt and it never stood upright again. So when ever he was alert or just waking up he would raise his head up and the expression and
that ear was so funny..

I could go on and on about him, but there is just so much space that you and the words never
seem to be the right ones.

Had we not adopted him, the chances are pretty good that his life would have been much shorter and a lot more sadder. But it wasn’t and Dempsey had a warm, safe and loving home for the past two years and he more than paid his way in return with all the grunts, barks, bouncing, and kisses and cuddling that he gave us.

I hope that he is happy and in a better place and that he will meet us when it’s our time to leave this mortal coil and be free to romp and play and just love each other again.

Dempsey, we love you-especially me.

In loving memory of my firend,
Dempsey
