Duke was a great gift from God at a time when we really needed him. We waited a long time before we brought a new family member into our home. He filled us will a joy that never ends. As I make the cross for his special grave today, I recall the times he saved my daughter’s life and she saved him. Chasing luring ducks on the lake in May cold water temperatures she swam after him. She almost drowning when he pushed her body to the surface. Protecting her at all times. Obedient and so easy to train. God bless him.
Even after 13 years and all his aches and pains he still remained loyal and loving. The time finally came and in his honour all family members were at home by his side when the veternarian came and administered his freedom to no more pain. The last thing he did was lick my daughter’s face as if to still comfort her and say it is okay. I love you. We buried him in our pet cemetery and this spring we will erect a commemoration cross with the words “The Gentleman” because that is what he was. As I work in the garden I will still see and feel him and find comfort in knowing he is now pain free. We will keep on loving him as he loved us
Duke always with us,
