Gummy Bear by Joan Reason / Mom

On Feb. 18,2002 I went to milk for my boss. In forty-five minutes he camt to the barn and told me to go home, my house was on fire. Upon arriving my heart felt like it was wrenched out of my chest, my home was burned to the ground. My first thought was, did my dogs get out? The firemen informed me all 7 dogs were gone. I lost my Gummy Bear, my 8yr old coonhound, my daughters’ 8yr old Doberman, my 1yr old Rottie and his three remaing pups from a litter he produced, my daughters’ 2 yr old Pitbull and an 8 week old kitten. The mother of the pups and a few other dogs were safe outside. The coonhound, my precious boy was one of two who saved my life and the lives of five other people in an apartment fire just 2 years before. He was gone, and I wasn’t there to help him.I have not gotten over this yet.Now I run a rescue, but back then the “kids” I raised from birth were my whole life. I love my animals like human children and the loss is as deep. My sympathy for all those who lost their pets, I know how it feels.
