Hope by John & Bekye Eckert / John and Bekye and the rest of the little train wrecks

In July 2010 there was a pitiful old blind Shih Tzu in a North Carolina shelter who moved two compassionate volunteers to put out a plea and a third to offer to get her out of there and begin a transport, but none of them held out much hope of her actually being rescued.

Caring Hearts Rescue gave her a chance, and we gave her a home. The sad little girl with little hope became our cherished Little Hope. We drove to North Carolina to pick her up and bonded with her immediately. She just had that affect on people. Sweet, cuddly, loving and quite opinionated, she was on our hearts before we crossed back
over the state line!

She also had serious health issues, including being riddled with mammary tumors. But Little Hope had hope once again. A dear friend and fellow rescuer referred us to the Shelter Canine Mammary Tumor Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Hope was accepted into their program and received wonderful treatment from the veterinarians and staff there. She had a long road to recovery but was ultimately declared cancer-free.

Our little girl was ready to enjoy her new life.

Thanks to people who cared, who went out of their way to make a difference for this little girl who had no hope, she had 2-1/2 years of love. Heart failure took her away from us today, but our hearts are overflowing with gratitude for the time we had with this delightful little girl, and for the many caring folks to helped give her hope.

Our Hope was a blessed reminder, every day, to never give up hope. And in her memory, we never will.

We miss you little Hope and we will love you forever,
Hope
