A new kitty has been dumped in my yard yesterday and this time it is
even worse that normally when they are dumped.
The poor thing is all beaten up in the face from the fall and
in complete shock.
Having this yard makes me crazy! I thought it was the mailman
who had been there with my mail. Cause my dog was barking really loud
but instead a kitty was lying oh so quietly on the road.
“Oh no there`s the first death victim” I thought and ran out to look at it.
It was lying still with eyes as big as teacups that looked out into the
eternity it seemed.
Hard earned experience has taught me that a cat in shock is not always
something to joke about I carefully got nearer and nearer.
The back of the nose was bleeding and there was an ugly wound on the side
of the head but I have seen worse over the years….
Gravel in the wide opened eyes well that`s more the rule than the
exception…
But there was something about the way it was just lying there apathetic
and staring that made it look more awful than usual.
A little bit of dried blood on the neck gave me the first hint of what had
happened to this kitty. There were signs of a furrow in the fur.
I was quite stunned cause I had never seen that kind of injury on a
“flying cat” before…. but then I realized what had caused it and I was
struck with terror!
There was only one way that furrow could have gotten there.
Dear God in Heaven they had tried to strangle this poor cat!!!!!
I jumped into the house after a towel to carry the poor soul in I
realized that I only had minutes to try to get hold of it before it would
“wake up” as shocked cats tend to do being all fearst and furry.
I gently removed the gravel and the furrow was studied more carefully
a second time which only confirmed my first suspicion that some
one had tried to execute the cat by hanging it or strangle it
with a string around the throat.
The cat started to tremble and I realized that I had to get away from
it ASAP cause a cat that wakes up from a shocking experience similar to
the one this kitten had been put through would attack the first living
person it saw-me. I started to get up some weird sounds got my
attention and there was the cat with all claws in my thigh while it was
biting me as well. Now I could really use some good advices as to what
to do but I decided to “just” sit very still and let the cat chew on my
thigh. Then WHAM BAM the cat was in the window the mirror behind the
washing machine while it was emptying every thing of fear all over the
bath room.
I left it in the dark and quietness behind the washing machine to think
about its situation but after 7 hours behind it I lost my patience and
let my husband move it out from the wall and give me the cat. With the
danger of being totally damaged of this frightened creature I had to
get in contact with the kitten. Up on my lap giving it the best canned
food and milk (I know milk is not the best to give to cats that are not
used to it cause it cause diarrhea but it is the best means I have to
“defrost” a shocked cat). The canned food was not as interesting as the
milk which went down pretty quick. Graapjuske another cat in my house,
sad nicely on the floor while he was saying: ” If the new kitty doesn’t
like the canned food you can give it to me cause I love it!”
The new cat didn’t bite me again and I took that as a big compliment. It
also allowed me to check out the rest of it and that seemed all right. But
when I wanted to check out the furrow it growled like a mad dog and I
quickly removed my fingers from it. I suspected that it would be a long
time before anybody would be able to touch that neck again.
Today the new kitty is sitting with Graapjuske at the washing machine
and are “talking”. Graapjuske is very friendly towards all creatures so
he is the perfect choice to make the new cats settle in. The washing
machine is Graapjuskes favorite spot right after the couch men he is
never afraid to share his goodies with others:-)
The new kitty is still a little stiff to be around but it has slept and
eaten now even been on the litter tray so I think it`s going to be
all right. There are no doubt in my mind that it will recover physically
quickly but mentally….? Hmmm….. I dunno I really dunno…..
Some of the cats that people have dumped here has recovered pretty
quickly others it has taken months. Some will for ever be ruined or
easier scared in certain situations cause it is no joke to be thrown out
of a car that is driving pretty fast and being left at a totally
strange place. That old saying about cats landing on all four? Well that
doesn`t fit on a cat that comes flying through the air thrown out from
a speeding car. Most of the cats that are dumped here in that manner,
are being beaten some more than others. To top it of most of the cats
that are residing here in the first place will start beating up the new
arrival in the first period of time it is here anyway.
I just came back from checking up on the new kitty and it gave me a
small purr while it stroke its chin towards my fingers. Maybe it`s one
of the few who will have a speedy recovery and put all this behind
him/her the hope is green and hope is all we got at the moment……
I think that Hope will be its name. It`s a good name to a poor soul like
that and given that name it can hopefully only go forward from here!
