Ivy was the first dog I had ever actually bought. All the previous dogs had been strays. I wanted an English Cocker Spaniel. I walked into a pet store, and there she was. I picked her up and she put her head on my shoulder and made a sort of relieved grumbling sound, as if to say, “I’m home. I think this lady loves me.” She did that little grumble noise every day of her 18 1/2 year life when I hugged and kissed her.
Ivy was a merry, loving puppy. Every day was an adventure of finding birds in bushes, meeting friends in the park, fetching the rubber football for hours. How happy were were. I thought it would never end. But Ivy went completely blind due to a congenital defect within three years, and then later deaf due to ear problems. But our communication of love went on and I think God gave her to me for so many years to make up for the loss of her sight and hearing. Thank you St. Jude, for answering my prayers and intervening whenever it looked bad for her future.
Ivy, I love you baby. I think about you all day. I hope you are with St. Jude now and you are waiting for me. I miss your little stubby wagging tail so much but my loss is St. Jude’s gain. Keep me in your heart darling until we are together again.
I love you with all my heart
