There’s a hole in our heart that gets wider each day,
A great pain exists that won’t go away.
So many things about you we miss,
From your sweet furry smile to your full-body twist.
That annoying, sharp bark and the scratch on the door,
But Lord, what we’d give to hear it once more.
Though you snarfed all the good stuff
from the other dogs’ dishes,
To have you back here is what everyone wishes.
Through back pain and toothaches,
you never complained,
You were happy with ear scratchings
till our fingers were pained.
What a wonderful gift
when God gave you to us,
You were meant to be ours,
and He gave us His trust.
You brought sunshine and laughter,
your love knew no end,
You were listener and solace; a wonderful friend.
Life’s lesson is hard — you were taken away,
To again be with Jesus on that difficult day.
To lose you brings heartache,
a great pain in our chest,
But we know that God holds you now
close to His breast.
With love everlasting,
