To my darling Jakie,

I brought you home so long ago, you stuck out your paw and gave a plaintiff meow and I knew I couldn’t leave without you. Daddy said I had to bring you back but he relented when I said if you went I did too. This time, however, I cannot follow where you have gone.

Sixteen years have come and gone, you have been a faithful and loving companion to us, and I am so sorry I did not put you out of your suffering sooner. I couldn’t bear to let you go.

I prayed to God that Daddy be there to greet you, and I pray that someday we will all be together again.

I love you, dear Jake, you will stay in my heart until the day I too must leave this earthly existence.
