Joey by Tiffany Cannon / Tiffany and Corum {Mommy and Daddy}

My Dear Joey,

Mommy was in bed on the night of September 8th 2002. Angie and Daddy let you out to pottie at 8pm. You always came right back in when you were done. Not this time I don’t know what you were doing or why but at 8:16pm the phone rang. Daddy answered. On the other end was a very kind gentleman who moved your dear body out of the road and onto the sidewalk. He then got your name and our phone number from your tags to call Daddy.

The man told Daddy as he choked back the tears that his dog had be hit by a car. And he had not survived. He told Daddy where you were and Daddy thanked him for doing what someone else should have done. Daddy and Angie went and got you. They put you in Angie’s pickup and brought you home. They couldn’t figure out how to tell Mommy and so they waited. When Mommy got up to get a drink she knew something was wrong. Daddy was white and so was Ang. I ask what was wrong.

One of the told me that is was you, Joey. That’s all that was said. I dropped the milk and ask if you were ok. Daddy and Angie started crying. I knew you were gone. And I didn’t even get to say goodbye. I went to the pickup to see you. I hugged you and kissed you and told you everything would be ok. We buried you at my Mom’s house.

My sister put a feather on your grave and my brother gave you a toy lamb. My Mom, Brother and Sister made you a headstone. Bear and Toby put their paw marks on it for you. They all love you too.

Mommy and Daddy think about you every day. Your collar is on the wall with your picture and a poem. We love you baby Joey. Even though you were only with us nine short months you will be forever in our hearts.
Mommy misses you dearly.

You will never be forgotten! With Love,
Joey
