Kess came to me when he was six months old. He was shy, and very gentle. He was very clingy to me and I loved it. He was always in my arms. Our other pets were elderly. Only Kess was young and as time went on and we lost beloved pets, I thought at least I would have Kess for many years.
But I took him to the vets late in September 2003. He was hiding away and no longer wanted to be nursed. He had stopped playing with his toys. At first nothing was found other than he had a temperature. But then an abscess came. While the vet was dealing with the abscess she found a lump. A biopsy showed it to be a malignant carcinoma and it was a rapidly growing cancer.
I took Kess to a healing well at a church in the countryside. I bought him a St. Christopher medallion. I could not believe that my beautiful chihuahua with gentle eyes would die. He was so young, only five and a half years old. The cancer spread quickly and it was so big and Kess was so tiny. I told Kess that he was going to be with Grandad Jim and Uncle David and our dogs and cats because he was poorly and would be better there and that one day I would come to him and we would all be together again.
The vet came to our home and my Kess was put to sleep in my arms. I shall never ever get over him. Every night I touch his pillow where he used to sleep next to me and I say “goodnight, Kess. Love you always and forever”. Just as I used to say before he went to rainbow bridge. His photograph and his St. Christopher are near my bed.
He was my world.
Love you always and forever, my baby.
