Three times Virginia State Champion…Best friend and companion for 25 years!!
Lindy Gal was the sweetest friendliest and all around BEST friend that
anyone ever had. I bought her in February of 1973 she was 7 years old
and I was 19 years old. That was the start of a wonderful 25 year relationship.
When we were on the “show circuit” she was the most beautiful horse
that you had ever seen (at least in my eyes).
After 7 years and numerous titles I retired her from the show ring and
started breeding her to the tune of 5 beautiful fillies and 1 colt
(all of which I regrettably sold) I found myself having to work for a living
just like everyone else and I retired Lindy to the pasture where she was very
happy and very much deserved to be. We had many years of long talks and walks
out in that pasture. When I got married and had a child she was not forgotten,
instead it was a family of four instead of three!
Lindy loved my husband as much as I did and when my son came along
she was just as protective over him as I was.
This past March at the age of 32 Lindy began to show signs of liver disease
and within a few weeks she was gone. I can’t describe the heartache that I felt.
A very large piece of me died with her that day.
I know that we had 25 wonderful years together and that is a lot longer
than most people have with any friend much less an animal but I can’t seem
to stop grieving over her. My son can look at me and see the sadness and
says “Mom I know that you are thinking about Lindy cause you look so sad”.
My husband misses her also and that helps that we can talk about her and
the good times together. But it seems that when I am alone with my thoughts
it always drifts back to my “Lindy Gal”.
If anyone reading this has a special place in their heart for horses
(or any pet that you have had and loved),
then just take a moment and close your eyes and wish Lasan Lindy Gal,
“Happy Trails Forever You Are Never Alone”!!!
