My daughter named you Leah when you were born and when we found out you were a boy we shortened it to Lee. You were born on Easter Sunday along with your brothers and sisters. We knew then that you were all going
to be very special.
You were the talker of the bunch. That is what I loved so much about you. Then shortly before your first birthday you were hit by a car. The car crushed your back legs. Somehow you managed to crawl to the back door and cry for help. We rushed you to the emergency room. The doctor said your injuries would require extensive surgeries. A bone replacement was required in one leg because your bones were crushed and a pin in the other. You stayed in the hospital for about three months. I was so happy when you came home. Your brother and sister were a little weary. It took a couple of weeks for everything to get back to normal. The doctor said not to let you jump or move around too much. You would have none of that. You tried everything you did before your injuries. You used your front legs to do most of your climbing. I can still see you trying to get up on my bed. Each day you climbed faster than the day before, just using your front legs.
Everything went wonderfully for many months. You were always happy and always there for me. Then five days before you died, you started walking slowly. I took you to the vet and he said the pin in one of your legs was slipping. You had surgery to remove it and I picked you up the next day. I thought you were just sore from the surgery. Then I noticed you were breathing very heavily. I rushed you to the emergency room. The doctor there thought that you had cardio myopathy. You heart was enlarged and your lungs were filled with fluid. You died three days later. I could tell that you didn’t want to leave us. You tried to hang on as long as you could. I don’t know if you had this heart condition all along or that it was caused by all your surgeries. I only know that you were a special and wonderful part of my life. You were always concerned more about I how was feeling than yourself. In your short life you gave me enough love to last a life time. You will be in my heart always. When my time has come, I will meet you at the Rainbow Bridge
my sweet Lee Lee.
I will love you forever,
