Lola’s Story

1965-1999

 

Lola was purchased by Omar at a bird show in 1982.

She was then 17 years old.

The man that sold her had a bird shop

and one night while Lola was there

the store was broken into and birds were stolen.

Around Lola's cage was blood but not hers.

Needless to say they tried taking her but she

was a wildfire in her younger days.

 

When Omar bought her she said "Ola"

and reached down and tore

into his arm.

He had never been bitten so hard.

His excitement about buying her slowly

diminished

but it was love at first bite for both of them.

Lola’s passion was for Omar

and she began hating everyone but him.

She was very protective of him.

Eventually she was convinced that Omar was not in fact her mate

and she settled down with Bo (her mate).

She mothered approximately 20 babies.

Thus she played a major part in establishing

Omar's Exotic Birds.

Lola and her babies helped

Omar's through the rough times helping to provide

the financial opportunity to get ahead and thrive.

 

Omar could always handle Lola

even while on eggs or babies--

this is very unusual with a scarlet macaw.

She was retired from breeding in 1992 and

lived the remainder of her life with Omar.

She became the mascot at his store in Placentia California;

everyone there knew and loved her.

 

Lola succumbed to kidney problems on October 7 1999.

She will be greatly

missed by all who knew her.

 

Lola you will live on in our hearts and memories; this is for you.
