Luger -aka Mr. Man, Doogie, Buddy-L… by Chrissy Hagerty

My Luger, My boy, My Pal, My Buddy, My Companion, My Sweetheart, My Protector…….

This Lil Man was a huge baby, unlike the bad rap that pitbulls get. As his owner; we brought him up and trained him to be 100% lovable, and that he was. He was the son I never had, nor ever will.He lived an amazing life of 15 years, well passed the life expectancy of a Pitbull. What character he had. So smart, so eager to please, so protective. He was attached to me like glue, always sneaking up from behind me poking his head through the back of my legs. Goosed me all the time like that…his little game he played.
Always there at the window, along with his lil girlfreind Shiloh ( who died 2 days before him) waiting for their Mommy to pull up in the drive to meet and greet me. Always ready to go for that ride in the truck. He’d stand so tall and proud in the bed of our trucks like he was a stallion. I called him my Lil Horsey Boy, for he reminded me of such grace and beauty. He loved his treats. I would show him off all the time with guests over of how he would nod “yes” to the question of, “Do you love your Mommy”…so smart. Always got a reply!! They say dogs can’t see in color…well I disagree, Luger loved his green toys, I had a huge basket of different toys, yet he always went for the green ones to play with even as a puppy.
He loved other dogs as well, and cats too. He got along with everyone and everything, not a mean bone is his body.He loved to swim in pools and lakes along with my black lab Onyx. She could hold her own with him to in the tug-a-war game…matter of fact she ended up breaking all the tips of her canines off playing so much with him. Luger couldn’t wait until there was Christmas, oh how he loved to rip open presents with you or for you, and birthdays. So funny to watch, so comical to see his curiosity. He was my Captain Bug Patrolman… anytime I’d see a bug, he was there to find it and detroy it. He knew his Mommy hated bugs. My other two dogs were recruited later by him to help out. He once saw a palmetto bug when I opened my bottom cupboard, and ended up pulling everything out by his teeth on the kitchen floor, he was adamant about finding that bug; I finally had to make him stop after an hour of being unsuccessful.
Whenever my husband would go on a trip and then return; Luger would be upset with him that he left in the first place and wouldn’t greet him upon returning home. He would sit down and turn his back to my husband as a show of upset for leaving him and not taking him along. So much personality….
He was my true companion. He always tried to be a comfort to me when I was dowm or upset; licking away my tears and bringing me a toy to play with, as to get my mind off of what was bothering me. Shiloh was like that too…and Onnie also. Dogs are so wonderful like that; their senses so keen and into you like radar. I miss them. My heart is heavy now, despair sinks in. I have my Onyx left who deserves all my love now. Three days after losing two dogs I learned my Lab has Lyme Disease. I pray she pulls through to enjoy what time I have left in her. She is so depressed herself from losing her two buddies. So sad for me…so sad for her…
Pictures, videos, & collors on my review mirror are all I have left now, and the memories in my heart and mind that will carry on until I see my canine family again. The house is so silient now.
Here’s to you my Luger Boy,
