I found maddie at a farm in Wiggins, colorado…she was the shiniest dog in the yard…she grew, and grew, and as she grew she became the sweetest, smartest, most loyal dog in the world…she saved a friend from an attacker, barking at him and flexing her muscles so he was scared away….but also so loving that a baby could crawl all over her….she gave us some health scares along the way that helped us rack up some frequent flier miles from the use of the credit card…..but always pulled thru…she helped me raise my kids, by showing them what unconditional love was all about….and how you treated others was how they treated you….she was almost 13 when she passed this year, and I know I should feel lucky that she lived that long, but I still feel slighted…she went quickly, but not without the guilt on my part that if I could have gotten her to the vet quicker,
they could have saved her….
I will never forget the words…I’m sorry she’s gone….and the unbelievable hurt that rose up in me, and has yet to go away…I feel silly sometimes because I am so heartbroken over a dog…when there are people in the world with so much more on their plates….but I loved her like family….I pray that there is a heaven and that she is there now with no pain….and one day when the times comes, she will be there to make me feel safe again….
