"Mama Rita" 1995 ----- March 1 2000

"Our beloved mama cat named after our restaurant.
A wild cat with a temper
but still loved.
A mother to many yet a kitten herself.
Mama Rita was beautiful and fierce at the same time.
She never knew the feeling of a warm
bed or a gentle hand to lend a scratch
or even a soft kiss upon her head.
As strong as she was
she was not able to defeat death.
Her body pregnant
with her sixth litter
was found behind a shed.
What came of her I do not
know but I hope she passed quickly.
I wish she could have been saved sooner
but a wild cat she is.
I grieve for her soul and t
he babies that were not born.
