She was a California girl and sought sunbeams wherever she lived---
San Francisco Seattle Halifax.
She was a girl of enormous dignity and gentle grace
with an inexhaustible supply of love.
She never had kittens so she mothered her people---
listening to our secrets cuddling close for comfort
hiding our tears in her plush warm coat.
She had beautiful golden eyes the colour of the sun she loved
and a constant purr even in the throes of her illness.
She died in my arms her head on my breast
her face turned up to mine one last time.
She was my friend my companion my first girl---
and I will miss her forever.
