Maui

April 16 1991 —- April 18 2000

Calico Cat

Maui was our first cat – a beautiful Calico.

She entered this world birthed in a box in our garage.

She was but three days old when we found her eyes still shut,

crying for her mother who had abandoned her.

From that day on she became our baby.

We fed her through an eye dropper put a warm face cloth over her eyes

and taught her to “potty”.

She went to school with her mommy every day as she was much too

little to stay by herself and needed special attention.

She was fed every hour by high school students who tenderly stroked

her and loved her. When she was six weeks old she went off with her big

sister Pamela to attend college at USC.

She came home on regular weekend visit and it was hard for her mommy and

daddy to let her go back to school with sister but we knew she would

be taken care of and loved.

Our Maui grew to be a lovely and sweet girl! Because of her joy to the family

we accepted other stray kittens and our family grew.

Maui lost a baby brother Pekay (a beautiful black kitten) to a brain tumor;

and also a sister Willie Girl (a beautiful gray cat) to feline aids.

She cared for her other siblings played and fought with them but she was

always respected as the queen and had a special place to eat and sleep.

On April 18 2000 – after a rain storm she wanted to go out and stretch her legs.

Unknowing she was brutally attacked by a pit bull dog in front of her home.

Mommy came out to investigate the barking and found her baby trying to get to

help and away from the dog unfortunately the dog had already severed

her hind leg nerve endings broke several of her spinal bones

making it impossible for her to move.

Mommy fought with the dog and was able to get her away from him.

She held her baby in her arms and raced to the family vet.

The Vet said she would never be able to walk again and since she had lost her

feelings to her hind quarters would not be able to have use of faculties.

The quick decision to put her at rest and relive her from her pain was made.

In a second she was gone from us.

We grieve her tremendously and know she no longers suffers.

Our loss is GREAT!

Friends and family have been supportive.

As her parents and siblings life is a daily struggle.

We know that she is with our Risen Lord and what better time to be with

him during the Easter Season.

One day our pain and grief will eventually subside and maybe we will be able

to make sense of this awful and painful death.

We look forward when we will be with all our little babies.

We know they are watching over us.

Maui along with Pekay and Willie and Jodie our black cocker spaniel

( Jodie died shortly after Maui was born)are constantly in our thoughts and prayers.

We love them all and miss them beyond words.

For our girl
