Miette and I found each other at the Humane Society in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her name then was Lucky. She had lived there for a long time, unable to find a home. She had even appeared on television to help support the humane society. I had never given a home to a rat before but I knew there was something special about her. From our very first day together we became best of friends.
She went everywhere I could possibly take her happily sitting on my shoulder. Even when her body was overtaken with cancerous tumors she traveled in a small dog carry bag to buy treats, etc.
Everyone loved Miette. The second you walked in the room and said, “Miette” she would run to the cage door and be ready to come out and play. She was very curious and also very considerate. She loved her whole family of dogs and cats, even though she had to nip a few of them just to show them that even though she was little….she wasn’t to be messed with 🙂
When Miette developed her first tumor it grew apple sized within a week. We had it removed and biopsied and were told it was cancer. It had already taken much of her body. She never lost her spirit. She lived longer than was thought and enjoyed each day to the fullest, sitting outside with me, eating Kennel Korn Popcorn 🙂
Tonight she died in my arms and for that I am so grateful. I only pray she is in a happy place now where she feels no more pain.
I love you so much Miette, you touched my life in ways you will never know. Thank you for letting me know you.
I will love you forever,
