Dearest little Mini-Me,

~ Shakira (Ref 64281) gave birth to you, the only one of the litter who turned out looking EXACTLY like her mother. You were her favourite – she always looked out for you ~ and then as mother cats do, she rejected you outright and my heart pained so much for you. But you had your beautiful Siamese sister Mischief, to whom you were so attached. The day came when you gave birth to your first litter.

It was Halloween and that made it more weird and terrible that all your babies were born twisted and deformed. We had them put down simultaneously giving three of Mischief’s babies to you. How you loved them! You raised them up to be fine kittens, the two of you swooping kits between the two of you. Then we moved and before I could get you spayed, a surprise – both you and Mischief had a second litter (unplanned). This time, you were sick with billary. But you fought for your life! We had to give some of your kits to Mischief to suckle!! But as you got better, you took them back and even a couple of Mischief’s for good measure!!

Later, the two of you shared in their upbringing like the time before – it was too cute to see!! When 2006 drew to a close I had you and Mischief spayed at last. From 11 cats in the house, we were down to three (and today, sadly – only Mischief remains). You were the little hunter after you were spayed and your babies gone to other homes. Not a day passed by without your bringing in a bird or a field mouse and calling us and Mischief to admire your gift. This became your “hobby”. You were relaxing into a new way of life, taking on the characteristics of Shakira, your mother –
when tragedy struck.

The night before last, we awoke at about 3 am to the sound of your screaming from the wood pile – and you were gone! Just like that. I heard a barn owl hooting ~ I remain positive he took you. Yesterday, I watched with great sadness as Ruff our dog, licked the blood trail from the woodpile and followed it down the pathway.

All the pets looked shocked and saddened. Mischief is still too afraid to go outside. She doesn’t know what’s become of you! She’s all alone now and our hearts are bleeding. Wherever you are little Mini-Me, thank you for your unconditional love. I will never forget you.

With love from us all,
Mini-Me
