Dear Mr. Mike,

It was a year ago that someone dropped you off at the farm down the road. It was a little later that I saw you for the first time. You were out in my front yard when I took my dogs out. I had to chase my dogs because they were chasing you. After I put the dogs back in I went to look for you to make sure you were ok. I found you hiding in the weeds by the barn. You looked at me then ran away. You looked ok so I went back home. What I didn’t know was that the big tomcat from the farm was all ways fighting with you. You found out that he would not come after you if you jumped in the fenced in dog yard. I don’t know how you did it but you made my dogs, which did not like cats except you. You were the only cat they would not chase.

I will never forget the day you walk into my heart by way of the dog door. I was watching TV when you came walking in the room with your tail held high. You walked right up to me rubbed up against my legs, meowed, then went and laid on the carpet by the birdcage. You looked at me like you were saying I’m home. I never wanted a cat but you knew better. No matter how many times I put you out you always came back in the dog door. You chose us. You made us all love you. Now you are gone.

I will always miss the why you would come in rub up against me to let me know you wanted your food. The why you would stand in the middle of the dogs and let them smell every inch of you when you would come in. The why you would never drink out of the water dish I put down for you. Instead you always drank out of the fish bowl. The sound of the kitchen chair tapping on the floor as you lay in you favorite place to sleep and clean yourself.

When I couldn’t sleep how you and I would have a midnight snack together. All the little things you did. I miss you a lot. I am so sad without you. I only had you for a short time but you became very dear to me. My dear Mr. Mike I will see you again. Or maybe someday a cat will come in the dog door again and I will know that you are home.
