"A World Without Neko"

Sept. 1 1999

Neko is not part of this world anymore.

I can still remember when he first came into our life.

It was the summer of many years ago:

I think she called it the summer of 1984.

My brother and I had settled in our new home

and were getting used to a new cat

who was French of all things.

At that time Neko came into our life.

He came in as a beggar begging for food

but mostly needing affection.

The first time he tried to enter our sanctuary

he got food and that was it.

And Grandma kicked him out and he cried

at the door for an hour.

We thought it was the last of him.

But just looking at her I knew we were wrong.

Neko had touched something deep inside of her.

And a week later Neko was in her arms

resting his face in her breast and meowing with pleasure.

He knew he had found his sanctuary.

She was mom to him and the bond

between them could never be broken.

As the years went by: This cat gave up his outside life

for her and she gave him everything

that had been missing from his life at that point.

He never wanted for food or love again.

When he was diagnosed with diabetes

she fought for him anyway she could.

She wanted him to die with dignity.

And today he did.

Neko is part of the spirit world now.

He roams the heavens

with my brother and children.

To My Neko,

It is not because I am not shedding

that many tears that I do not feel the loss.

I have cried so much in the last few days

that my body won't indulged.

I am left with a emptiness inside and a realization

that I will never see you again in this world.

You came to me in need and you left so full of love.

You are and always will be My Neko!
